Choosing Data Collection Methods

This module continues the series of introductory e-learning modules on monitoring and evaluation (M&E). While you might find it useful to take META’s other introductory e-learning modules prior to this one, there are no prerequisites for completing this module.

This module is also available in Arabic, courtesy of the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, at NonprofitReady.org. Click here to access the module in Arabic.

After completing this 20-minute module, you will be able to:

  1. Explain why data collection methods matter for your programs;
  2. Ask yourself five questions to help choose appropriate methods; and
  3. Determine when and when not to use certain methods, like individual in-depth interviews, focus groups, observation, and surveys.
