For unaccompanied refugee minors (URMs), identifying as a member of the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning) community adds layers of complexity to their experiences, often intensifying feelings of isolation and vulnerability.
LGBTQ+ URMs often encounter compounded discrimination and are disproportionately affected by violence, homelessness, and lack of access to essential services. Considering the unique challenges these individuals face, it is crucial to prioritize support within this community to create safe and affirming environments for youth to thrive. This webinar is designed to equip URM service providers with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively address these disparities. By focusing on actionable strategies for fostering inclusivity, implementing LGBTQ+ affirming placements, and offering client-centered guidance and resources, participants will be empowered to play a pivotal role in creating safer and more supportive environments for all LGBTQ+ URM clients.
