Tip Sheet: Virtual Mental Health Care for Refugee Newcomers: Considerations when making referrals

This resource, created by N4 (National Newcomer Navigation Network), provides some best practices to providing virtual mental health services to newcomers.

Please note: Virtual mental health (VMH) services are provided in ways that do not involve in-person contact between the provider and the service user. VMH services have been found to be effective and satisfactory for a range of different service users and mental health conditions. This fact sheet summarizes findings about the accessibility of VMH services from two sources: a scoping review of VMH services for refugees; and interviews with 45 newcomer users of VMH services and 63 providers from Alberta, BC, Ontario and Quebec.
