Using Community Advisory Boards to Strengthen Mental Health Service Delivery for Refugees and Other Newcomers

Community advisory boards (CABs) consist of community members who share common history, symbols, identity, language, and culture. They can empower newcomer community members to voice their concerns and provide guidance on projects that address important needs, ensuring community involvement every step of the way.  

After participating in this 75-minute session, you will be able to:   

  • Explain the purpose and benefits of community advisory boards (CABs) in service delivery and research 
  • Describe best practices for forming and facilitating an engaged and efficient CAB  
  • Recognize common challenges associated with CABs and identify strategies for overcoming them
