You Asked, We Acted: New Features on the Switchboard Website

Switchboard is continually seeking feedback on how we can improve our services. Among the recommendations for improvement that we received through our most recent program evaluation, there were several suggestions for our website. We are pleased to announce several new updates that were informed by these suggestions.

Updated navigation and search function

We have added a site-wide search bar to the top of every page. This bar searches Switchboard’s resource library: search results include archived webinars, blog posts, e-learning modules, evidence summaries, downloadable resources, and more. Additionally, we have improved the menu navigation for resources by creating a dropdown that lists Switchboard’s topic areas and resource types. Selecting from this menu automatically triggers a search for resources on that topic or of that type.

Improved login function

Website users reported that they found it difficult to log in to the website and remain logged in across multiple visits. We have added a new login/logout button to the top of every page, next to the search bar. Clicking on this button opens a login popup where users can enter their credentials. Be sure to check the Remember Me box to maintain your login the next time you visit the Switchboard website.

New resource library layout

To improve usability and allow users to preview resources before downloading, we have added thumbnails to the library. We’ve also created a horizontal layout that shows more information for each search result. By selecting one of the search taxonomies displayed as blue expandable bars, users can refine their search, and then use the reset button to remove all existing search filters. In the search results, users can now see a preview of the first page of downloadable files, as well as a full description and other relevant information. Resources that are hosted by Switchboard can be downloaded directly from the results page by selecting the Download File button and those hosted on external websites can be accessed via the Access Resource button.

New resource post layout

Each individual resource page now includes a more user-friendly layout to make it easier to locate the links and files you’re looking for. We’ve also expanded the You May Also Like section so six relevant resources appear at the bottom of each resource page. A similar grid of featured resources can also be found on the Switchboard homepage, with new links to resource types.
